Diltiact Gel
PRODUCT DETAILS
About Diltiact Gel
DILTIAZEM belongs to the group of anti-hypertensive medicines called 'calcium channel blockers used to treat mild to moderate hypertension (high blood pressure) and prevent angina pectoris (chest pain). High blood pressure is a condition in which the pressure in the blood vessels is increased. The blood exerts pressure on the walls of blood vessels with increased pressure leading to hypertension. Angina pectoris or chest pain occurs due to reduced blood flow to the heart, which is caused by narrowing or blockage of the heart’s arteries (coronary artery).
DILTIAZEM contains 'Diltiazem' which works by relaxing the blood vessels in your heart and body, which reduces your raised blood pressure. Besides this, DILTIAZEM also lowers your irregular heart rate/rhythm and dilates your coronary arteries. As a result, your heart will have less burden and will be not too overloaded to pump blood throughout your body. Together DILTIAZEM lowers your blood pressure, thereby reducing your chest pain (angina).
Take DILTIAZEM with or without food. The tablet form of DILTIAZEM should not be chewed or broken but swallowed as a whole with a glass of water. Take it at the same time every day. The injection form of DILTIAZEM will be administered by a healthcare professional. Do not self-administer. A topical form of DILTIAZEM has to be taken as a pea-sized amount onto your finger and apply directly onto the affected area and gently massaged. If DILTIAZEM comes in contact with the eyes, nose, or mouth, rinse with water immediately. You are advised to take DILTIAZEM for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience certain common side effects headache, dizziness, slow heartbeat, fluid buildup (edema), general weakness, being sick (nausea), and skin rash. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.
Try not to stop taking it on your own as it may cause a sudden increase the blood pressure, chest pain, or heart attack. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, electrolyte levels, and kidney functioning is advised while taking DILTIAZEM. People with low blood pressure (hypotension), recent heart attack, lung fluid buildup (pulmonary edema), liver disease, and other heart problems like heart failure, slow heart rate, and heart blockage should avoid taking DILTIAZEM and should take advice from a doctor. Consume low table salt (sodium chloride) and a low-fat diet while taking DILTIAZEM. Avoid taking DILTIAZEM if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor, as he/she may prescribe you alternate medicine. DILTIAZEM is not recommended for children as efficacy and safety have not been established.
Uses of Diltiact Gel
Hypertension (high blood pressure), Prevention of angina pectoris (chest pain)
Medicinal Benefits of Diltiact Gel
DILTIAZEM belongs to the group of anti-hypertensive medicines called calcium channel blockers used to treat mild to moderate hypertension (high blood pressure), and prevent angina pectoris (chest pain). DILTIAZEM works by inhibiting the movement of calcium ions across the heart muscle and smooth muscle linings of the blood vessels, thereby relaxing and widening the narrowed blood vessels making it easier for the blood and oxygen to reach the heart. This, in turn, helps in lowering the blood pressure and the risk of having a heart attack or stroke. DILTIAZEM improves the patient’s tolerance to exercise by keeping the blood pressure levels at normal. The heart rate does not change or is slightly lowered during maximal exercise. DILTIAZEM does not have a negative inotropic effect (does not weaken the heart’s contractions). DILTIAZEM helps in reducing both standing and lying down blood pressure without any orthostatic hypotension effect (sudden decrease in blood pressure on standing). Also, DILTIAZEM does not cause reflex tachycardia (fast heart rate due to a drop in blood pressure).
